Powerful models and strong harnesses, the inevitability of agentic commerce, and the continued appeal of a canvas

weeknotes11 Sept20262 minuteread

It's been a heads down kind of week: back to school for the kids, a design sprint on the work front, and a one-year old who has decided that lying down and doing nothing for 12 hours in a dark room is the worst possible use of her time. I see where she's coming from, there's so much to see and do and learn, but the thing I'm learning (again and again and again) is how important sleep is.

All that to say it's a light week for notes.

Powerful models and strong harnesses

I carried on using Claude Code + Figma for some wireframing this week and it's sooo good. Though I've been looking with some lust at all the jaw-dropping one-shot 3D work and games that people have been producing with OpenAI's Astra model.

The Inevitability of Agentic Commerce

I thought this was a good piece on the current state of agentic commerce. Though I think the 'sudden rise' claim is too strong. Some new tools (Muse from Meta, Instinct) are out that make it easier for non-developers to run agents. I haven't seen any signals of particularly strong adoption beyond, well, developers, hobbyists, and others who are waaay too into this space. I need to dig into both tools a bit more. Questions abound. Like, "Is Meta more trustworthy than OpenClaw?!" and, "Does anyone want this?". See this Wired article for more on that. There is a weird narrative of inevitability about agentic commerce that I'm not convinced by. It's not going to be evenly distributed, at least.

The Continued Appeal of a Canvas

The Ways of Working canvas continues to be one of the most useful tools I've ever created. I used an abridged version in a swift sprint kick off this week at the end of which one participant said to me about another, "I've been managing them for a year and a half and I just found out some really useful things about them that I never knew."

More design sprinting next week. Fingers crossed for more sleep too.
