Weeknotes (2025-05-02)

Resting, vibe coding, futures, Black Mirror.
"A man who is tired of London is tired of life." True. Because this is still London.'"A man who is tired of London is tired of life." True. Because this is still London.'

It has been a week of rest. Holidays at home are weird. I fall into what I romantically think of as the daily pattern of a writer. Albeit, one with a long list of jobs to do around the house. I noticed that when I'm at home and not working, I get 'phantom meeting panic'. It's like the phantom buzzes you feel from your phone, except it's the inexplicable feeling that you're late for a Zoom call while you're reading in the garden. Bizarre.

I jumped into some vibe coding this week. For ages I've wanted to work with Three.js to create 3D animation in the browser but I've been intimidated. Not so with my trusty ChatGPT subscription. Though I am so glad I actually know Javascript and can write code that works. I think the most impressive thing was ChatGPT's ability to use reference images I gave it and produce code that got 80% there.

I've been speaking to some super interesting people over the last couple of weeks on the future of marketing which, I posit, depends on how decision making is impacted by people's use of AI. I'm putting together a talk for some students and I'm pulling in a bunch of different perspectives to challenge my own.

Toria and I are very slowly working our way through the latest season of Black Mirror. I think this is a really strong season, with smaller stories that feel more powerful. It's interesting how they seem to be stepping up their building out of a Black Mirror Universe alongside those more closed stories, linking episodes together with the tech or Juniper references. But I'm finding that the ideas are a little less fresh, a little less surprising. I do spend a lot more time thinking about this stuff these days than I did in 2011. Does everyone?
